Issue Date: 2014
Description: Despite the widespread use of learning management system in higher education, little research has been done to examine its usability. Users are often frustrated when using the system due to difficulty in understanding the instructions, confused by the information displayed, limited facilities and low function efficiency. These lead to the usability issues of the learning management system. Thus, this research is proposed to evaluate the current Moodle applications as well as the improved prototype. The object of evaluation is Moodle applications used by New Era College. The evaluation method used was user testing to identify the problem and possible solutions that can best improve the current Moodle application. Both qualitative and quantitative data gathering techniques were utilised in this study. The data gathering technique employed were focus group interview, survey and heuristic evaluation. The focus group interviews were implemented in the analysis phase for collecting user requirement. The analysis of user requirement becomes the foundation for designing and developing the prototype. On the other hand, heuristic evaluations were used to evaluate the developed prototype with the aids of a questionnaire. The heuristic evaluations were distributed to five usability experts in exploring the improved prototype while questionnaire were administered to 150 students in New Era College. The results from both data gathering method were analysed. The results of the survey reveal a high level of satisfaction from New Era students towards the improved prototype. The findings also indicates that all five experts who undertook heuristic evaluation agreed that the improved prototype interfaces are much better compare to previous interface in term of satisfaction, ease of use and efficiency.,Master/Sarjana
