By the year 2000, the total world requirements for oils and fats is projected to increase by another 20.0 million as a result of world demographic expansion and economic development. This increase in world demand for oils and fats will provide the market opportunity for the increasing production and export availabilities of Malaysian palm oil. On the other hand, the supply of other oils and fats (including palm oil produced by other countries) will also be increasing in order to fulfill a portion of this growing world demand; and therefore, the will provide severe competition and in some cases, serious threats to Malaysian palm oil. In effort to formulate appropriate marketing strategies and plan for Malaysian palm oil in the world market, due consideration should be given to these potential competition and threats to Malaysian palm oil.en_US
