Description: The study comes into play with the balancing of two differing focus point; ESL writing skills and gifted students. Yet deemed as linguistically talented, but the gifted students who have participated in the study showed improvements only three days into the camp program. The question is: ‘what’ makes that possible and ‘how’? Thus, this study seeks to investigate the thinking repertoire of gifted students’ in learning ESL writing skills, specifically in terms of the connection between general intelligence, specified-domain intelligence and emotional intelligence. This qualitative study involved 15 students, aged 13 years old from Crafting the Essay Class; one of the writing classes offered in PERMATApintar National Camp for the gifted in 2010. Based on the research findings, there are three important phenomenon with regard to the learning process of ESL writing skills which concerns human intelligence; (1) both metacognition and cognition mental variables were involved when students were learning ESL writing skills and when the actual writing comes into play. Moreover, in both instances where writing is involved, it appears that (2) general intelligence is used as a substitute in the absence of specified-domain intelligence whereas, (3) emotional intelligence functions in ‘thoughts facilitators’ in due course of the processes involved. Basically, the research implications influence the outlook on teaching and learning as a whole; it creates a new foundation on how to approach and help students learn as well as how to design the appropriate lesson plan.,Certification of Master's / Doctoral Thesis" is not available
