Description: | This study discusses the development and evaluation of a module for mobile learning-based writing activities using the WhatsApp phone application; where the ADDIE instructional design model was adapted and employed as the framework for the design and development of the module. The aim of the study is to analyse pre-service teachers’ readiness to use mobile learning to teach writing skills; design and develop a module to encourage pre-service teachers to use mobile learning for writing activities; and evaluate the mobile learning module for writing activities based on its contents, usability, and user-friendliness. It is a quantitative study where a total of 28 ESL pre-service teachers from the same institution were involved with the analysis, implementation and evaluation stage of this module through a survey and semi-structured group interview. It was found that the pre-service teachers were not ready or interested to implement mobile learning to teach writing before the module. However, after the module, many agreed that the WhatsApp-based writing activities are suitable to be used for students and can help to improve writing skills. This study implicates that it is possible to create mobile-based writing activities for students to make teaching writing more interesting. This study hopes that teachers would explore using mobile learning more to teach or make writing activities as it can be done by students anywhere and anytime and does not necessarily need extra expenditure,“Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis” is not available,Master of Education |
