Description: Patient dental education is crucial for the maintenance of oral hygiene, particularly in removable partial denture (RPD) wearers who have a higher risk of developing caries and periodontal disease. Mobile applications are fast gaining a role in oral health education. However, the applications available may not be evidence-based or validated. Moreover, there is a lack of studies on their usage as a chairside educational tool and take-home reference material. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a progressive web application (PWA), which is a new approach in the development of mobile applications, in educating RPD wearers. Fifty-two cobaltchromium RPD patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were randomly allocated into the PWA and Control group. They were educated using either the PWA or verbal instructions with demonstrations on dental models. The effectiveness of the PWA was assessed by comparing the knowledge scores and oral hygiene indices before and after education. The results revealed that the participants in both the PWA and Control group showed significant improvement in knowledge scores (p<0.001). The PWA group recorded lower plaque index, gingival index, and denture plaque scores compared to the Control group at one month and three months post-education. However, only the gingival index was statistically significant lower (p=0.008) at the third-month review. Ninety-two percent of the participants used the PWA at least once after being introduced to it. These results show that the PWA is effective in improving patients' knowledge and oral hygiene. Besides, it is useful as a reliable reference for oral and denture care,Ijazah Doktor Pergigian Klinikal (Pergigian Restoratif)
