The opinion of this work was given by Prof. G. He drew my attention to H. Rrren's dissertation and referred me to the edition of A in Al-Machriq, which I was allowed to use for two years in the copy belonging to him. Through the intermediary of H. RITTERS, I then received from Pastor D. WINDrunn-Hamburg the copy and translation of H. that he had made, and with special kindness as my property. Rrrrn also gave me the photographs of H that belonged to him and his copy of D, and later also that of T, for the entire duration of the work, a text that I first became aware of through him. When I had just become somewhat familiar with the material, I found out by chance that the current private lecturer in Bonn, Dr. W. HETTENING, working on the 'Bryson' and on the basis of the original copy of the Munich H-Hs. preparing a translation of the text for the Rheinisches Museum. We agreed that I would leave the history of economics in Islam to him and focus on the classic-philological side of the problem, i. H. the collection of parallels from ancient literature and the possibility of reconstructing the Greek text u). However, when HEFTINING felt compelled to give up its share of the work as a result of the occupation of the Ruhr region and the resulting cessation of lending from Berlin to the Rhineland, I took over the investigation of the Islamic sources again myself.en_US
