Abstract: | During the last three decades, Asian countries with few exceptions, have strived to transform their respective economies from one that is agro-based to one with a stronger industrial base. Inevitable, some are more successful than others and the former are often emulated and perceived as models for development so that others may follow in their footsteps. Thus we see the economic success of Japan and latter those of the East Asian newly industrialised economies (NIEs) as worthy of emulation in less developed economies. |
