Abstract: | We are presently witnessing the outcome of rising expectations of parents and children in education. Every Malaysian child, from the first moment of enrolment in a kindergarten, has been raised to believe that one day he will go to a university. University education is no longer seen as the prerogative of the urban elite; every kampung, every settlement now has families with not just one child but several children who are enrolled, if not in one of the local universities, in one of the many far-flung institutions abroad. |
