Advances in information technology are able to create avenues to communicate environmental catastrophe. Mass media development over the years disseminates information to mass audience fast and effectively, transcending international and national borders. Although there are now many high-tech means of communication but the effects ofthe destruction caused by natural disasters is still yet to be under the control of mankind. Efforts to reduce the destructive effects of natural disasters must be enhanced. Media organizations and the global community are increasingly aware of the importance of mass media in disseminating information on the destructive effects of natural disasters to the public. The existence of the mass media should be fully utilised so that preventive measures and preparations can be carried out earlier through quick and accurate information dissemination. This research was conducted in view of the frequent occurrence of natural disasters that gave great physical and psychological impact to lives. Natural disasters affect human lives, stunt economic development and stir the socio-political stability of a country. Emotionally traumatized victims and other consequences from natural disasters require a long time to regenerate and recover. Specifically. this study was conducted to identify the role and effectiveness of local media in informing the audiences of impending natural disasters occurring either within the country or overseas and to see the level of youth acceptance of information distributed by local media on issues and news related to the development of the natural environment and natural disasters.-
