This presentation aims to assess the recent economic, social and political development in the GMS sub-region and identifies emerging opportunities and challenges facing the successful transition toward a market-driven economy. The GMS countries are in a critical juncture when sub-regional efforts and cooperation must be made to fully address the rapidly evolving issues which are vital to appropriate policy formation, yet remain widely debatable. The deliberation here sheds light on the development stages of GMS countries and offers policy recommendations for pushing forward the sub-regional cooperation.en_US
