This paper takes the usual approach of first examining the extent of Japanese foreign investment in the manufacturing sector in Malaysia, and secondly assessing the contribution of these investments towards the achievement of the stated objectives of Malaysia's industrialisation efforts and the objectives of the New Economic Policy. It must also be noted that some of these conclusions may only be valid for the period under study, i.e. up till 1980, and thus this paper will also attempt to suggest the emergence of new trends based on developments since then.en_US
