As of the end of March, 1982, the total amount of Japan's overseas investment stood at $45.4 billion, of which the trade and service sectors accounted for 39.4 percent ($17.91 billion), followed by the manufacturing sector of 32.7 percent ($14.85 billion) and the natural resources development sector of 23.4 percent ($10.63 billion). Major regions of Japan's investment are Europe and the U.S., accounting for 38.7 percent ($17.57 billion) and Asia which accounted for 28.9 percent ($13.3 billion). Notable is the fact that in Europe and the U.S. the trade and service sectors constitute the most important part, as do the manufacturing and natural resources sectors in Asia.en_US
