dc.description.abstractIn the past two decades, Malaysia's palm oil production has increased by 28 fold from 92,000 tonnes in 1960 to 2.6 million tonnes in 1980. Malaysia has since risen to become the world's largest producer and exporter of palm oil and its products. It contributed about 10% to the nation's GNP in 1980 The oil palm industry also provides employment to more than a quarter of a million people in its 150 palm oil mill, 700 estates, 50,000 small holders, 45 refineries and about 3,000 dealers.en_US
