dc.description.abstractThis paper is based mainly on the writer's research experiences in the area of rural development while serving as a Government Officer. Beginning as a District Social Welfare Officer, then as State Social Welfare Officer (Malacca) and Research Officer of the Ministry of Welfare Services, he was the seconded to the Ministry of National and Rural Development (Research) and the to the Economic Planning Unit where he was appointed Consultant Sociologist to both the Johore Tenggara and Pahang Tenggara Regional Master Plans. He was also appointed by the Eleven-man National Committee for Gerakan Maju and as a member of the Settler Advisory Committee of FELDA. Since joining the U.S.M. he has inter alia undertaken a research project involving the fishing community in Telok Bahang and in Pulau Pangkor.en_US
