dc.description.abstractAccording to an information booklet on the speech of the Governor of Penang at the State Legislative Assembly in 1978 it was proclaimed that the "State Government has been successful in developing eight industrial areas and has provided direct employment' to some 40,000 workers". The Bayan Lepas Industrial Complex is one of the eight industrial zones located about 11 miles from Georgetown involving some 3,200 acres formerly was agricultural land and of which 550 acres are demarcated for industrial development purposes, with the balance to be transformed into an urban growth center/township.en_US
