dc.description.abstract | In May, 1980, Romy Villanueva from Bataan, Delfin Ganapin and I privileged to attend the Nuclear Free Pacific Conference in Hawaii. We shared our experiences and activities in opposing the construction of the now $2 billion Westinghouse nuclear power plant in Bataan with our country under martial law. Our eyes were opened to the misery brought by the US weapons testing in the Marshall Islands, especially the health and environmental problems suffered by the people. We heard the fear and apprehensions of the 'French' Polynesians over France's weapons testing at Mororua in Tahiti. We listened to the delegates from Palau, the Marianas and the Marshall Islands talk of US plans to use much of their very limited land for military base expansion. | en_US |
