During the last decade or so, countries in Asia and the Pacific have witnessed an unprecedented bullish trend of oil and gas exploration and declining demand for all major metals and minerals. The develop- ment and exploitation of minerals and energy resources in these regions have, therefore, been quite tremendous. The contribution, as well as influence, of industries based on these resources too have been far reaching. Although management efforts have been carried out quite systematically, there are still areas that need looking into. Of late, coun- tries over Asia and the Pacific are beginning to be affected by the deve- lopment and the environmental crises caused by them.en_US
