If international contests between individuals or teams are treated as involving national prestige or as proving racial or national superiority. then they may serve only as an additional source of international mis. understanding. And, yet, in a world that has no common religious or political philosophy to share, perhaps the field of sport and the universali- ty of the ideal of sportsmanship may provide a meeting ground where cooperation and understanding, a respect for the rules, and a sense of fair play, will prevail.
