Abstract: The paper attempts to outline the Penan perspective on development by looking at the overall situation of the present-day Penan community. It discusses in general terms how the Penan community organises its social life according to modes of survival. Some Penan groups are more "settled" than others. It also discusses Penan responses to development and how the Government attempts to provide some of their present-day development needs.
