Abstract: | The golden apple snails are reported as a major and serious pest in paddy fields which solution practice, however, with increase in awareness for environmental protection, requires serious attention and prompt solution. Synthetic pesticides have been the common alternatives for conventional molluscicides are sought and bioactive compounds from plant origins have been actively explored. Plant extracts exhibiting toxic effect toward mollusc pests were given much attention in the recent years. This paper presented a synopsis from publications which evaluated the use of plant extracts and their bioactive molluscicidal phytochemical properties against Pomacea canaliculata (Golden Apple Snail). The review attributed 16 plants, parts of plants used and mollucicidal potentials. Some bioactive phytochemicals which showed strong attributes toward molluscicidal activities were discussed. |
