Abstract: | Hydrography is very new to a lot of us in this part of the world. Basically, in layman terms, hydrography involves the charting of the waters for the safety of navigation and collection of data concerning marine environments. Hydrography can be briefly divided into three aspects: a. Coastal hydrography which concerns the development of ports, harbours, coastal erosion problems and safety of navigation; b. Off-shore hydrography - which is collection of data up to the continental shelf for exploration and exploitation of living and non-living resources; c. Oceanic hydrography - which is the collection of hydrographic data for the study of oceanography. |
