Abstract: A survey of the aquaculture practices in eight coastal municipalities of Pangasinan was conducted from July 1987 to March 1988, covering 499 brackishwater fishponds. The survey revealed that most fish farmers in the eight coastal municipalities in Pangasinan practise milkfish monoculture. Aquaculture practices remain traditional, and management is extensive with heavy input of pesticides. Average production is 900 kg/ha/year. This study focuses on the patterns and levels of the aquafarming practices towards developing management strategies for aquaculture development in the gulf area.
