Application of GPS for control of digital mapping

Abstract

With the explosion of computer related activities in the field of information technology and the increased popularity of computer-based maps, map-makers have to adapt or even replace their conventional methods in order to satisfy the requirements of modern map users. To meet the demands, modern map-makers need to acquire new skills, as well as, absorb and utilise new technologies that are sometimes at the frontiers of human achievement. The challenges are indeed formidable but the increase in stature and importance, as they assume their role as information managers in an era where information is as valuable as gold makes it a very tempting and exciting proposition.
