dc.description.abstractGeographical Information Systems provide an efficient way of inventorying, measuring and analyzing the characteristics of infrastructure elements and their spatial distribution. This paper provides a brief introduction to Geographical Information Systems reviewing old their history and discussing their components. The difference between vector-based and raster-based GIS systems is explained. Different approaches and software are also reviewed.en_US
