Abstract: The Department of Survey and Mapping, Malaysia (DSMM) is responsible for the survey and mapping of Malaysia covering a total of 330,000 Km square. The department recognized that in order to achieve this task, the utilization of Computer Assisted Land Survey and Mapping techniques are required where activities such as data input, processing, manipulation and analysis, storage and retrieval and the generation of variety of output including maps, plans, charts and statistical reports could be realised through customated means. Under the development programme, the department had acquired Computed Assisted Land Survey System (CALS) and Computer Assisted Mapping System (CAMS). This paper presents the objectives, overview concept and production phases of CALS and CAMS. Also described is the development of the National Cadastral, Topographic and Cartographic Databases for future Land Information System and Geographic Information System (GIS).
