Abstract: | Bangladesh is physically small in size and considered as one of the most thickly populated country in the world with over 1350 people per square mile. Except eastern and south-eastern margin, the whole area of the country consists of a fertile vast alluvial plain. 90% of its population depends on agricultural activities. As such agriculture is of basic importance to the nation because it not only providing food for the people but also providing employment to an overhelming proportion of its people and supplies raw material to some industries which constitutes the backbone of the country's economy. Since the agriculture is playing vital role for the country, it is undoubtely important to pay much attention to its proper practice which may help to strengthen the economy of the country. For better planning in the field of resource management, planners need authentic data. A land use map contains several types of information for land and resource management for identification and preservation of land suited for agriculture, forestry and other uses. Remote sensing technique has been recognised as an established method in preparing thematic Such maps can be prepared very quickly from Landsat image, and can be updated according to the maps. planner's need. In the south-western part of Bangladesh, a definite change in its land use pattern has been identified. |
