Abstract: | It may seem at first glance that there is little relevance between the steaming tropical jungles of Borneo and the icy heights of the Himalaya, but this seminar highlights the arena in which such ostensibly different countries as Nepal and Malaysia can really compete, that of nature tourism. As Nepal is amongst the poorest and least developed nations of the world, and Malaysia one of the most clever and successful, this is surely the only economic area in which Nepal can contend. Most of Nepal's US$ 60 million tourism industry is nature and adventure-based, so some discussions of our problems and successes may be of interest to Sabah. As by far the fastest growing market segment, nature tourists receive great attention as the target of national tourism organisations. |
