dc.description.abstractIn his presentation, Mr. John Sanday proposed to spell out the ways and means of establishing Melaka as an historic city and to suggest a few guidelines for discussion, based on his experiences in other Asian countries.he pointed out that the Member States of UNESCO adopted in 1972 the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage at the same time created the World Heritage Committee and the World Heritage Fund, which have both been operational since 1976. So far 93 States are party to this Convention of which 12 countries are from the Asia and Pacific region but Malaysia is yet to become a party to the Convention.en_US
