The year 1071 is a turning point in the History of the Middle East. Indeed on the 26th August of this year the Turks, who originated from Central Asia, had defeated the Byzantines at the battle of Mantzi kert, near Lake Van, and had begun the invasion of Anatolia. These Turks, known later as the Seljuks of Rum, depended on the Seljuk Empire, which was ruling a vast area in Iran and the neighbouring countries.en_US
