Abstract: | n this paper, the term 'Archives Management' unless specified otherwise vill he taken to include Records Management the latter including both the management of current records and their 'selection' for preservation as archives. There are approximately 12 Ministries, or the equivalent, in the Royal Thai Government which in turn include approximately 137 major agencies (i.e. of departmental status or the equivalent). In addition there are approximately 38 government -o vned enterprises of which at least a dozen are of major size. There are 72 provinces. There is not yet, in any ministry, department, enterprise, or province, any official with full or even substantial responsibility for the appraisal and selection of archives or, for that matter, for developing the most efficient means of controlling current records. Virtually none of the archives of these bodies, the majority of which came into being after the establishment of constitutional monarchy in 1932, are in the custody of the National Archives. |
