Abstract: The purpose of the study is to examine the background of women film authors, their way of thinking, their thought on women's issues, their styles in addressing these issues and the manner in which they can represent the gender role. The study utilizes the Film Author Theory and The Feminist Film Theory. The study was executed qualitatively by implementing in-depth interviews. In-depth interviews were carried out with Indonesian women film authors that comprised of Producers, Directors and Film Script Writers. The Study found that the forces behind the participation of women in film production is more because of women's issues since they believe that film as a medium can help express their thoughts and feelings. Women film authors are more sensitive and receptive to women's issues, more positive in representing women and they believe that film can give a strong impact on the lives of women in the real world. The study also found that women film authors pay more attention to local issues where they consider film as a reflection of thoughts and they believe films do not necessarily have to comply with values and norm of the society.
