dc.description.abstractThe paper deals with the impact of IslÉm in Yorubaland, in south-west of Nigeria, West Africa. The paper starts with brief introduction of what is known as Yoruba. It goes on to talk about who are the Yorubas and where they could be found. The paper explains the tradition religion of the Yoruba people before the advent of IslÉm; it also discusses their religious philosophy about God. This serves as background, which helps us to understand the changes or transformations that occur later. The paper also discusses introduction of IslÉm in Yorubaland. It also shows the transformation that occurred in the Yoruba creed, their beliefs in God before and after the acceptance of IslÉm, not only as a religion but also as general way of life. It also discusses the Impact of IslÉm on Yoruba language as well as literacy. The paper ends with elucidation of the changes and transformation on custom and culture of Yorubas after the spread IslÉm.
