Abstract: The issue of environmental security is an important issue in Malaysia and not surprisingly concerns researchers and stakeholders. Many people face obvious environmental threats such as flood, haze and deforestation. These are all related to climate change at large. Together with the benefits of development have come negative environmental impacts and environmental degradation. Thus people start to think about the adaptation measure such as to promote sustainable development. However, the core and basic of the problem is still the understanding of environmental security as an issue. There are two main research questions of this paper: what is the understanding of environmental security? What are the responses towards various issues related to environmental security? This paper aims to address the definition of environmental security as an issue; and to investigate state policies on environmental security. This paper adopts a qualitative method in collecting literatures and data. The same applies to method of analysis. The main research methods are surveys, interviews and observations.
