Abstract: Language education is closely related not only to linguistics in the 'narrow' sense, but also to the vehicle of education itself - literacy. Yet research into the relationships between linguistics and literacy and between literacy and education is underdeveloped in our region. The paper attempts to explore this crucial relationship, in particular concentrating on the links between linguistics and literacy, and between literacy and socialization, both in order to demonstrate more fully what can be said about these areas and to indicate areas where further research needs to be done.
