Abstract: Cottage Tourism is defined as tourism activities related to culture and heritage, traditional food, handicraft, homestay and chalet for tourists attraction. The nature of cottage tourism is usually conducted in small scale by rural households to serve as an additional source of income. With structured implementation and promotion, cottage tourism is able to act as an important source of household income. This paper discusses the structured implementation of various cottage tourism activities. The success of cottage tourism as an alternative source of income depends on central development of the area, promotion of the activities to the tourists, active governing body and continuous community involvement. The case study of this paper analysed the potential of Homestay programme to be promoted as a successful cottage tourism activity. Quality traditional living condition is an important element for any Homestay programme. In addition, marketing of the programme, unique attraction and continuous traditional activities are also essential to ensure the sustainability of Homestay programme as tourist attraction.
