Abstract: The study attempted to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence, hardiness and burnout among social workers in Sabah. Data were collected from 115 social workers in Sabah. The Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI) was adapted to assess level of emotional competence, Personal Views Survey Ill was used to measure level of hardiness, and The Maslach Burnout Inventory was used to measure burnout level of the respondents. The purpose of the study is to explore the emotional intelligence profiles of the social workers, to examine the differences in emotional intelligence, hardiness and burnout among the welfare workers according to the workers' age and gender. This study also attempted to examine the effect of emotional competence and hardiness on burnout.
