Abstract: The construction industry is a fragmented industry. It requires coordination among supply chain members such as clients, consultants, contractors, construction material suppliers, distributors, manufacturers, installers, construction workers, and many others. Currently, the industry is facing new challenges but the mode in which we face these new and emerging challenges are different and intense. Our knowledge- driven global society has had an immense impact upon competitiveness not just in the construction sector but others as well. Indeed, there has been tremendous knowledge-driven changes in service facilities and packages in all industry-sectors. The readiness of Malaysia to face these global challenges is continuously being questioned. Thus, are we competitive enough? What measures are required to ensure that we are not left behind in the global rat race? The paper discusses the current and emerging challenges in the construction industry. It also explores the measures required to ensure that Malaysia's construction industry remains competitive with that of our global peers.
