dc.description | Microwave propagation path loss modeling techniques are one of the major aspects of wireless engineering for optimum system pre��planning and deployment. These models may be classified into models with or without terrain correction parameters. Hata model though does not include terrain correction parameters yet it is being considered as one of the mostly used, simple implemented, least demanding and with the accepted level of accuracy. Hata model is customized for urban area case, and corrected for suburban and open area cases. On the other hand, the distinctions between different area criteria��s were assumed indefinite and not unique. In addition to that, the model was basically fitted for flat landscape environments and has not accounted for the diverse landscape categories, such as high rough terrain areas. Moreover, Hata has restricted the applicability of the model for distances beyond 1 km, and for frequencies up to 1500 MHz. The assumption of transmitting antenna height to be over 30 m has also burdened the system limitations. Original claims state the accuracy of predictions to be within � 8 dB from average predicted value. Practically, measured deviation of up to � 20 dB was reported in diverse locations with different scales of landscapes. The aim of this study is to integrate specific terrain roughness parameters into Hata urban relation and formulate a new Hata based, terrain roughness corrected model in order to overcome the impairments of the original model. Data of receiving power were obtained from cellular service providers in the frequency range of 900 MHz and 1800 MHz in Amman city, Jordan, and its vicinity. The proposed scheme of work is to extract the roughness parameters for the routes under study, and correlate them with the excess computed path loss from Hata urban relation. Linear regression relations are then obtained to integrate these roughness parameters into the original Hata urban relation and RMSE analysis is used for comparison purposes. The primary endeavor of the study is first to separately integrate the standard deviation of the elevations and the slope level of the route taken by the receiver into Hata urban path loss relation through linear regression relations. This stage includes the validation of the parameters in the micro cell range of distance. Followed by that is to formulate a linear regression relation integrating both of the roughness parameters and validate the new proposed model for micro-macro cell ranges. Using the standard deviation parameter as a path loss estimator, measured RMSE deviation of less than � 8 dB is observed in 60% of the routes under study in different area criteria��s for the 900 and 1800 MHz. Using the slope of the route as a path loss estimator, an average deviation within � 8 dB is observed in 55% of the routes for both of the 900 and 1800 MHz bands. In realizing the new terrain roughness relations into the Hata path loss model, no area category distinctions are performed and the need for different area corrections was omitted. Moreover, the new implementation extended the validity of the model up to the 1800 MHz band, and permitted antenna heights below 30 m given that they are mounted above average roof tops. Finally, a new micro��macro Hata based path loss model is formulated and validated utilizing both roughness parameters as path loss estimators for the 900 and 1800 MHz. In such a case, an average deviation of less than � 8 dB is evaluated for 70% of the routes in different area criteria��s.,PhD | - |
