Abstract: | Considering the above subject in the context o f our main theme - Engineering of a Desirable Future for the Malaysian Palm Oil Industry through to year 2000, I felt it would perhaps be helpful to provide an overview of the past and present situation in the Palm Oil Industry which will be extremely helpful in any assessment we are to make today for future plans over the next 10/11 years in to year 2000. Although it can be said that the industry so far has successfully managed to market its product s and maintain total stock at comfortable positions (inspite of the near panic situation we experienced in early 1986), we would have to take into account the fact that production is projected to increase substantially in Malaysia to approximately 5.5 million tonnes by 1990 and to the region o f 7.74 million+ by year 2000. The marketing envirornment in the word market continues to grow increasingly more competitive and to some extent even more restrictive Coupled with this situation we have to contend further with the fact that by year 2000. Palm Oil producers in other countries which do not now present a major source of concern for Malaysian Palm Oil exporters may well be in the position to export significant quantities into the world markets. |
