dc.description.abstract | Over the last two decades oil palm has played a very significant role in the development of the Malaysian economy. In 1986 the palm oil industry contributed about 7% of the country's Gross National Product (GNP). Palm oil products and by-products like palm olein, palm stearin and palm kernel oil contributed extimated $3.3 billions in export earnings for the country {Department of Statistics}. The palm oil industry provides employment not only to rural farm families in land schemes but also to agricultural workers in estates. Other employment opportunities have been created in other supporting industries. | en_US |
