Abstract: | Ibn Sina, known to the West as Avicenna, was a born genius of multifaceted talent, versatile personality, and mastered terse subjects like a different sciences, philosophy, astonomy music , poetry, mathematics and a physician unparalled in Tibb. He wrote the book Al-Qanun which lays down, interprets and explain principles of medicine , health, hygiene and prevention of diseases. He defined medicine as a branch of knowledge which deals with the states of health and disease in the human body for the purpose of adopting suitable measures for preserving or restoring health. Preventive and social medicine, which is gaining greater importance today, was given great import a thousand years ago. The basis of treatment is also rationalised with reference to a person ' s individual constitution . Much of what is contained in the book Al-Qanun is relevant even today. |
