Abstract: | Noise in computer ecosystem has been a nuisance to its users. However, white room noise has the potential to be a source of random numbers. Random numbers have always played a critical role and essential part of the security of cryptographic system. Due to the nature of pseudorandom numbers, they are preferred instead due to its efficiency and reliability. As the name suggests, pseudorandom numbers are not truly random. Rather, they are generated from a mathematical formula. The outputs of pseudorandom number generators may exhibit some of the properties of random numbers. Pseudorandom numbers are predictable, periodic and repeatable by the developer of the cryptosystem. Truly random numbers are believed to be generated (700 using hardware random number generators. Careful statistical analysis is still required to have any confidence in the process and apparatus which generates numbers that are sufficiently 'random' to suit the cryptographic use. In this paper, random numbers are being generated from raw white room noise live on demand. They are also to be tested for randomness according to the selected NIST Statistical Test Suite within few seconds. Thus, the output numbers are suitable for cryptographic keys in practical application. |
