dc.description.abstractThe synchronization of two or more generators in a power system is a common process for sharing system loads. Therefore, synchronization is one of the most important topics for electrical engineering students that they should thoroughly understood. Currently, students can have a better understanding of concept of synchronization by conducting experiment in laboratory using synchronoscope, bulbs, oscilloscopes and switches. However, such experiment requires expensive devices and furthermore it cannot be programmed to be automated. This research presents an innovative way of setting up an easy to develop synchronization device using simple and cheap components, and conducting synchronizing experiment in laboratory. By using a Personal Computer and develop a custom-built virtual instrumentation software, all conditions for synchronization are monitored, checked and, if possible, corrected automatically. Then whenever all the condition holds, the device promptly connects incoming generator into the power system. LabVIEW Software together with National Instrument DAQ Board, transformers, relays and contactors are implemented. It can be shown that the system works well. Furthermore, the developed synchronization device is good for educational purpose that enables students to understand the requirements for synchronization of three-phase power system. Students also will able to observe in real time voltages waveforms, frequency, phase sequence and phase difference of synchronizing process.-
