It was 25 years ago that ASEAN was born in Bangkok, Thailand. The present leaders of the ASEAN member countries all have lived their mature adult lives and experienced those sometimes turbulent 25 years. Some have made valuable contribution to ASEAN's cohesion and stature. As a change of leadership in some ASEAN countries is taking place or imminent it is therefore important at this juncture to make an assessment of the recent past and have a look at the near future to make sure that the good things are passed on to the next generation and less auspicious aspects of our coexistence are not repeated.-
