Abstract: | Car-pooling is a possible solution to lack of transportation convenience faced by Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) community. The remote location of the university creates the need to travel very occasionally in order to run errands. Observation indicates that the popular mode of transport in UTP is by car but often with vacant passenger seals. Obstacles are difficulty of offering and finding rides especially within short-notice. This paper discusses the underlying pervasive technology that makes carpooling application more practical. Existing systems are mostly forums or data input and retrieval systems. The paper concludes with a proposed system which finds matching rides automatically every time there is a new request or offer entry and informs both parties immediately by using push strategy. |
