Abstract: "A study by Paul K. Benedict entitled ""Thai, Kadai and Indonesian: A new Alignment in Southeastern Asia, indicates a serious attempt to establish the linguistic relations between Thai and Malay. In his study, which was published in 1941, Benedict referred to a study by Gustave Schelegel (1901) who proposed that if loanwords of Chinese and Indie origins were removed from the lexicons of the Thai language. one would finda sizable number of the wards vith common forms and meanings used in both Thai and Malay. result, The as Schelegel put it, is an indication of the close linguistic relations of the two languages."
