Innovative teaching is often a product of circumstances as well as the desire of teachers to make teaching more effective. Faced with the increasing student population entering institutions of higher learning it's timely that a new approach to teaching and learning be introduced so as to make teaching more effective and efficient. One such approach is generally known as individualized teaching and learning (ITL). The paper will discuss the basic characteristics of ITL and its implications for staff training in educational technology. A working plan of ITL suitable for teaching basic undergraduate biology courses taken by a large number of students will be detailed. Possible problems and advantages of such an approach of teaching will be discussed.-
