Abstract: | GranuLab Sdn. Bhd. (GranuLab ) was formed by Romli Ishak and Ghazali Ibrahim in 2005 to host the development and commercialization to of a patented synthetic bone graft substitute, made from limestones and pure chemicals I called GranuMaS. The technology was invented by a group of researcher, led by researcher of a group t SIRIM. Opportunity for GranuMaS was then identified by GranuLab founders, which then triggered its further development and commercialization. The founder then exploited the business opportunity resulting ln the transfer of GranuMaS technology to Granulab, and in turn GranuLab being acquired by Sindora ln mid- 2007. At the end of 2007, the founders had to think of its next course of action. But, they realized the need to educate parent company on managing technology-based venture, particularly one that involve invasive medical technology. This case describes the process of innovation involving medical technology, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship at GranuLab, leading to the of GranuMaS. It is designed to stimulate critical thinking of the of innovation and entrepreneurship and promote understanding of a medical technology commercialization |
