The chemical constituent of Malaysian parasitic plant, Balanophora papuana Schltr. from Cameron Highlands, Pahang has been studied. The rhizomes of B. papuana were successively extracted with solvents of different polarities, namely n-hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol. The purification work on the n-hexane extract has led to the isolation of one pure compound, BPHI. Based on the spectral studies and comparison with literature data, this pure compound was characterized as ~-Amyrin acetate.-
