This paper attempts to examine the historical position of the Christian churches to the contradictions between the Gospel's position and the practice by the financial institutions. In so doing, it is found that the Church had an ambivalent attitude towards financial transactions, and has come to accept practices that are far more nuanced than would be the classical position of the commentators on principles of financial transactions.-
